Photography 20 -Panning practice #1

These photos are once again of my dogs and are my first attempt at panning in order to capture that nice blurred background while having a sharp subject that really defines movement.
The first 3 are really of my dogs, just Ginger being silly once again.

Somehow this photo isn't as clear as I intended it to be. As for the reason for this, I am still unsure.

So, these are my first attempt photos at panning. It took me a while to get Ginger running, but I was able to make sure before hand that my ISO was at a good setting and that I had a 1/30 shutter speed which the assignment asked for. This first one, isn't that great. Ginger's stomach area is okay (as far as clarity goes), but her face is still blurry, then again this was my first experience at panning.

This one is slightly better, Ginger's face is clearer while having a nice blurred background. This is probably one of the best ones I took. I took exactly 37 photos, most of them so bad that I didn't really want to post them on my blog. I will probably go through them once more and select a few more to post, and I promise that I will take more panning shots tomorrow.

This one I'd say is my best one. Ginger looks very clear while having a fairly good blurred background to emulate action. I also love the colours in the upper centre of the photo, the greens mixed with oranges and yellows of the sunset (which couldn't really be seen...seeing as how I live in the middle of a city, unfortunately).

This one could have been better if Ginger was more clear and sharp. Again, the middle of her body seems to be really clear, but her head is not.

This one is bad, I only include it because I love the light blue of the snow that I captured. This was the only time that Bonnie really was running around. She's old and doesn't move as much, at least not as fast as she used to. The same goes with the last photo.

I think my main problem with panning is that I'm not moving as much, you're supposed to move the camera to follow the action as it moves across your frame. I think I'm not moving enough, or keeping steady as I do so. I shall try to improve this for next time. And I will take more photos of things other than my dogs.

There will be more panning practice photos to come.
